Weaving Center in Santiago Atitlan
Since 1995 the Comité has been building a weaving center where they plan to teach their traditional weaving techniques, sell their weavings and also have as community center.
In January 2006, a group of 20 Farmer to Farmer members traveled down to Santiago Atitlan where they worked side by side with families to help finish the building In January 2007 F2F took another group to Santiago Atitlan and this time they worked on putting the finishing touches on the sales room. With generous donations from members of F2F, they were able to buy doors, windows, shelving, a table for the sales room and beautiful planters and plants for the courtyard. The highlight of that trip was being part of the grand opening of the shop/showroom where they will sell their beautiful weavings, embroideries and beadwork.
The Comité has many other plans for the weaving center and Farmer to Farmer continues to work with them on these plans. As with all our projects, we follow the lead from the Comité as to what they feel is most important for us to work on together.
