Know Your Coffee Farmers

It can be hard enough to know your local farmer, but getting to know farmers on another continent can be a massive hurdle. Thankfully, many of the board members on Farmer To Farmer help bridge that gap. Long time board members like Jody, Brenda, and Andy have fostered 20+ year friendships with the farmers we work with today.

Farmer To Farmer buys direct from the farmers we partner with, as well as paying for half of the coffee crop up front to help farmers negate predatory farming loans. Much like how CSA’s function, by taking on a shared risk with the farmer by purchasing a share before the season starts. All farmers face a multitude of challenges through the growing and planning season, including weather, disease, finding good labor, and more.

One small, but exciting project we will work on at our new Community Space, is hanging portraits over each lot of green coffee beans we received this year. Putting a face and name with each crop can be a simple but effective connection.
